Customizing and Configuring
The WebAdmin Utility lets you customize and configure the Web Publisher. The WebAdmin Utility is installed on your server along with the Web Publisher, and you run it from your browser. With this utility you can define Headers, Footers, Background Images, Foreground Color, and Background Color. You can also modify the Search Form, Search Results, and the Help Page.
IMPORTANT! The WebAdmin utility (WebAdmin4.exe) lets you remotely define settings for the Web Publisher. The Web Publisher installation automatically sets security permissions for the WebAdmin utility on Windows NT and Windows 2000 servers running NTFS. The default installation will only allow administrators to run the WebAdmin utility. If you install on a server which is not running NTFS, you will need to manually set up security to prevent anonymous users from accessing the WebAdmin utility. See the FAQ file on our Web site for details - http://askSam.com/faq.asp.
To start the WebAdmin utility:
1. In your browser enter the URL to the WebAdmin Utility. For example:
http://www.server.com/scripts/WebAdmin4.exe

The column on the left side of the screen contains the main menu items for the WebAdmin:
Ÿ Install - sets the default directory for askSam databases on your server.
Ÿ Default Settings - sets the Web Publisher default settings for colors, background, headers, footers, search page, help, and search results.
Ÿ Import from v3 - converts WebAdmin settings from the askSam 3 Web Publisher to the askSam 4 Web Publisher.
Ÿ Add Alias - lets you alias a file and define specific settings for that file (colors, background, header, footer, search page, help, and search results).
Ÿ Alias Settings - lists all aliased files and lets you edit and update the settings you defined.
NOTE: Make sure you place the WebAdmin in a secure CGI directory or that you use NT permissions to restrict access to the WebAdmin. Only the webmaster or other authorized persons should be able to run this program.
