Creating a File Alias
An Alias is a name you define for an askSam database using the WebAdmin utility. You then use this name to access the database with the Web Publisher. Aliases serve several purposes:
Ÿ When you create an Alias, you can define file settings for colors, background, headers, footers, search page, help, and search results.
Ÿ An Alias allows you to access askSam databases in any directory or drive on your server. Without an Alias, you can only access databases in the default directory.

To create an Alias for a file:
1. Start the WebAdmin utility.
(Enter the URL, for example: http://www.server.com/scripts/WebAdmin4.exe)
2. Choose the Add Alias option.
3. Enter the drive, path, and name of your askSam file.
For example: c:\askSam4\readme.ask
4. Enter an alias for the file. The Alias is the name you'll use in the URL to refer to this file.
For example: Readme
5. Choose the SUBMIT CHANGES button.
You've now created an Alias to your file. You can define file specific settings by choosing from the options listed across the top of the screen:
Colors / Background
Header / Footer

NOTE #1: Using an Alias, you can open askSam files in directories other than your default askSam directory (as defined in the Install Settings).
NOTE #2: The File Settings are saved in the Windows' Registry.
