Integration with Microsoft Excel - One Click Data Transfer

Transfer your askSam search results to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with a single click. This is a great way to do powerful searches in askSam and transfer the resulting data to Microsoft Excel for further analysis.

By simply clicking the new Excel Data Transfer Button in the Search Results window, askSam will transfer the data from the askSam Search Results Window to a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet.

Folder View

Folder View is a very popular feature in askSam 6. It is the perfect way to view your documents in manageable groups based on any field in the database. Version 6.1 adds the following features to greatly enhance the Folder View…

Ÿ Build Subfolders Using Fields

Create subfolders using any field from your askSam database. You now have an option to create subfolders using the traditional backslash in one field or by selecting a second field. Using fields to create subfolders gives you more flexibility in organizing your information.

Ÿ Display Documents Using Multiple Fields

Use two fields to display documents in the folder view. For example, if you are managing contacts database, you can use both fields FIRSTNAME[ and LASTNAME[ fields in the folder view. Also, separate your display with a comma, semicolon, hyphen, period etc.

Ÿ Display Optional Field

If the field content or document name you selected for the default display does not appear you can now select an optional field to display. This allows you to display documents with multiple entry forms in your folder list.

View documents in your folder view listed by document name.

Ÿ Sort Folders by Date And Numbers

Sort Folders and documents by text, date or numbers. Also, adds the ability to sort folders and and documents separately, allowing you to sort one or both.

Ÿ Folders Load Faster

No more delays in displaying folder information. Folder data is now stored in a separate FDR file so that they load extremely fast. Also, a progress bar is displayed when loading folders.

Ÿ Easily Access Folder View Settings

Instantly change folder fields, display settings and other folder options by clicking the OPTIONS Button on the Folder View Toolbar.

Ÿ New Icons

Folder View never looked better. You will find it easier to navigate your documents with our new look - improved folder and document icons are not only easier on the eye but more intuitive.

Import/Export

Ÿ Import from Sub Folders

Import all files from a folder and all sub folders contained in that folder.

Ÿ Import Thunderbird Email

Import Thunderbird email folders directly into askSam.

Ÿ Export Search Results to a Spreadsheet

Export the contents of the search results directly to Microsoft Excel or any other default spreadsheet program. Simply search and click on the Excel Export button on the Search Results window toolbar. askSam automatically creates a spreadsheet containing your search results. Use your default spreadsheet to chart, graph or save this information in a spreadsheet format.

Other Enhancements

Ÿ Miscellaneous

Version 6.1 makes it easy to switch to standard folders such as My Computer, My Documents, My Network etc. in the Open, Save, and Import/Export dialog boxes.

Bug Fixes

Build 794

Ÿ Attachment button not properly updating when navigating with folder view or search results.

Ÿ Header and/or Footer window no longer closes when typing into either window.

Ÿ Focus now goes to editor when adding a document instead of staying at the last location (search line, folder tree, search results, etc).

Ÿ When askSam regains focus, editor now restores previous scroll positions instead of defaulting to cursor position.

Ÿ Search prompt corrupts Page Setup. Previously, search prompts found in report caused the page setup to change from A4 to Letter.

Ÿ Numeric Search problems. - Added a check box to numeric search dialog to allow users to refine their search. In previous versions the sample request of "fieldname[ < 5" would retrieve all documents where the fieldname[ was less than 5, but also would retrieve all documents that did not contain fieldname[ and documents where fieldname[ was blank. Now searches done with the numeric search dialog will only retrieve documents that contain fieldname[. The new check box allows the user to treat empty or blank fields as zero, or to exclude empty fields from the search altogether.

Ÿ Removed numeric prompt checkbox when using delete selection dialog box.

Ÿ Canceling an import no longer freezes askSam.

Ÿ Document count in status bar now correctly displays document number when navigating using the folder view.

Ÿ If import or email import failed to initialize the file would not be reopened in proper share mode (Single User Version).

Ÿ Fixed potential lockup in word list if word typed was not in the word list (Professional Version).

Ÿ Fixed encoded password not being read correctly from emw files for email import.

Ÿ Made minor changes to IMAP email import for some servers that did not get first message.

Ÿ Fixed a problem where global picklist didn't appear for fields where picklist isn't associated with them.

Ÿ Fixed a problem with Prompt searches where you couldn't use default answer or use picklist option both at the same time. This caused neither of those options to work properly.

Ÿ Default answer in the prompt searches didn't work. The prompt did not display the default answer and also it did not search using your default answer.

Build 796

Ÿ Importing from Subfolders and using date range; now only files that match the date range will be imported from selected sub folder(s) instead of all files in the sub folder(s)

Ÿ Selecting just sub folder(s) will now allow import dialog to work properly. Previously clicking the import button or pressing enter just changed to the last highlighted sub folder

Ÿ Delimited import into an entry form from Word or WordPerfect files now places correct filename into fields with ^F, ^L etc. Previously the temporary RTF filename was placed into those fields.

Ÿ Delimited import into an entry form now displays the correct number of documents imported instead of zero documents imported.

Ÿ Importing RTF files now preserves the landscape print orientation.

Ÿ Exporting RTF files now preserves the landscape print orientation.

Ÿ Fixed file unlocking bug with folders & read-only files.

Ÿ Fixed bug where folder fields with trailing spaces or tabs caused duplicate entries in folder view.

Ÿ Document count in status bar now correctly displays document number when navigating using the folder view.

Ÿ Fixed bug where new documents did not always appear in folders.

Ÿ Fixed bug when deleting a document did not repaint folders.

Ÿ Fixed crash bug when saving a document if folders weren't valid.

Ÿ Save Web Page to askSam feature works now in this build.

Ÿ Added exporting to Excel to file security.

Ÿ Updates Users Guide, Getting Started Guide, and Upgrade Guide.

Build 797

Ÿ Fixed status bar not correctly displaying document number when going to a document from report output via CTRL+ENTER or double clicking on item.

Ÿ Fixed folder view setting bug when an encrypted file was converted from 6.0 to 6.1, the folder data would not display characters.

Ÿ Activates Close Search Results Tab menu option. Previously this menu did not do anything.
