"The State of Florida has a Tax Law Library that is available on the Internet and the Dept. of Revenue intranet. The Library includes the statutes, rules, court cases and Technical documents generated within the agency for research purposes.
The URL for our Internet Web site is:http://taxlaw.state.fl.us/.
Our internal version of the Library includes all of the above documents as well as documents for agency use only.
Before developing a Web based library, we had a LAN based library. The library was developed in Folio and the source documents were all Word Perfect 5.1documents. When we switched to a Web based library, it was necessary to find a vendor that could convert our source documents into a usable format. At that time, there were few vendors who had programs that could perform the conversion. We contacted askSam who developed an ASP (Active Server Pages) application for us.
For security reasons, the Internet files and the intranet files are maintained on separate servers. In addition, there are no other programs running on these servers. In June of 2001, we received an askSam upgrade from 3.0 to 4.0. Since the upgrade, we have experienced quicker responses to searches and no lockups on the servers. askSam has been very responsive in providing technical service."
