askSam: Introduction please?

DR. GUNNAR WAHLGREN:  I am working as an orthopedic surgeon in Sweden.  Being 63 years old, I no longer do surgery.  For the last six years, I have been very interested in muscular diseases which are very common and disabling.  These illnesses very often stem from bad working conditions and from whip lash injuries in motor vehicles accidents.  Most of my clients are referred to me by their lawyers for a thorough assessment.  As this area of research is growing rapidly, I have to read a lot of scientific articles to upgrade my knowledge.

askSam: Can you tell me how you use askSam?

DR. GUNNAR WAHLGREN:  I am using askSam for DOS for my patient records. After some programming, I can write prescriptions, certificates etc; very conveniently.  In DOS, the letters on the monitor are bigger so it is easier to work with a textbased interface than to use Windows. With askSam Pro for Windows, however, I now have the paperless office!!  I scan every piece of paper that I need to keep directly into askSam Pro thus never having to search for papers again.  It is all there in askSam.  Likewise with scientific papers which are mostly in English, I can also use the askSam spellchecker. Thanks to the very efficient search engine in askSam, it is very easy to retrieve what you want.  askSam is far easier than, for instance Medline, the big international medical database.

askSam:  How has askSam made your job any easier, or faster or more efficient?

DR. GUNNAR WAHLGREN:  askSam for DOS and askSam Pro for Windows has certainly made my job easier, faster and more efficient. I have no staff -- only a part time secretary who works from home via modem and PC Anywhere.  My research would have been impossible without askSam.   The scanning and retrieving possibilities have really revolutionized my work.  As far as I understand, everybody who has a need for archiving and retrieving printed or typewritten text needs askSam Pro.

askSam: How did you decide on askSam?

DR. GUNNAR WAHLGREN: The first time I saw something of askSam was in a Swedish computer journal.  What interested me was the free searching possibility which was the reason I decided on askSam.

askSam: How does askSam compare to some of the other programs?

DR. GUNNAR WAHLGREN: As to comparing askSam to other programs,  I don't have any experience.

askSam: Can you tell me about what kind of customer support you have received as a user?

DR. GUNNAR WAHLGREN:  I bought my first askSam program back in 1985 or so. I have always had very good technical support, first by phone and lately via the Net or E-mail.

askSam: Would you recommend askSam and Why?

DR. GUNNAR WAHLGREN:  Yes, I can highly recommend askSam to everybody, as I have written above.

"askSam is an essential part of my software tool chest. I can research and collect data from anywhere and any source. Once it is in askSam I can edit, rearrange, organize, and search the information easily. Then I can present it and make it totally useful for other people via the web or CD. Fantastic!"
