  Attach a copy of the original Word document (in its native format) to the database. You can export the original file from the database at any time.  This is great for archival purposes - for example, taking a decade of meeting minutes or contracts and archiving them onto a CD. 
  
  
• Type in Your Notes, Comments, and Other Information.
  askSam lets you enter your own descriptions, notes, and comments. 
  
  
• Create Entry Forms with fields.
  If you need to classify and categorize the information you import, askSam lets you define fields for your database (e.g. Title, Author, Keywords). askSam does not require fields, but for many applications they can be useful. askSam comes with pre-defined templates for over 40 different applications. 
  
  
• Automatically Recognize "Fields" in Your Word Documents.
  askSam can automatically identify words that provide structure in your Word documents, and askSam can use these words as fields.  For example, if your documents contain words such as "Date:", "Subject:", "To:", and "From:" (as many memos or faxes do), askSam can use these words as fields. You can search on the contents of these fields, sort on these fields, and even output reports from these fields.

  Output lists of your documents sorted by title, author, or any other fields. Reports give you an overview of your information, and in askSam, no programming is necessary to create great looking reports.

  Create hypertext to navigate between your documents. You can use askSam's hypertext features to set up a table of contents or index for manuals, documentation, or e-books. You can use hypertext to create links that connect bits and pieces of information or provide an overview of your documents. You can even link to external documents or Web sites. 
  
  
• Output specific text fragments
  askSam's show command lets you search your documents and output text fragments containing a word or phrase. For example, you could generate a list of every paragraph from every document containing the phrase "international aid".

Publish on the Web.
The askSam Web Publisher lets you publish your database of Word documents on the Web. Users can browse and search your information from any Web browser.
