Employee Skills Database
The Employee Skills database tracks and monitors the skills of current employees in your company. It helps you fill job openings in your company with your current employees.
To open the Skills database:
Click on Skills Database from the askSam RTS Main Menu.
or
Choose FILE ® OPEN and select the skills.ask file.
The Skills Menu
When you open the Skills database, the following menu will appear on your screen:

From this menu, you can access many of the important features of the Skills database. Click on an underlined menu option to execute it. The menu options have the following functions:
Menu Option Description
Add an Employee adds an employee skill form to your database. You can enter personal information about each employee.
Power Search lets you combine searches using the Search dialog.
Run a Report displays a list of predefined reports that you can run. See the Report section of this manual for a full list of reports.
RTS Menu returns you to the RTS Main Menu
Resume Database opens the resume database (resume.ask)
Clients Database opens the clients database (clients.ask)
Help for this File access instructions and documentation for this file
Exit askSam closes this file and exits askSam.
Close This File closes the current file.
Fields in the Skills Database
Most of the fields are self-explanatory. Some are automatically filled out. It is not necessary that you enter data into every field.

The following is a description of the fields:
Field Description
Employee#[ assigns a number to each employee. This number is automatically generated.
Last_Name[ employee's last name.
First_Name[ employee's first name.
Title[ employee's title.
Department[ employee's department.
Office_Phone[ employee's office telephone number.
Other_Phones[ employee's other contacts - pager, cell phone, etc.
Email[ employee's email
Location[ manager's office location.
Birth_Date[ employee's date of birth.
Employee_Date[ employee's date of employment.
Manager[ name of employee's manager.
Manager_Title[ title of manager.
Manager_Phone[ manager's telephone number.
Manager_email[ manager's email address.
Experience[ record employees experience
Areas_of_Expertise[ record areas where employees excel
Skills[ this field lets you enter the employee's skills or special traits.
Education[ record employees education
Certification[ record any certifications awarded to the employee
Notes[ this field lets you enter notes about the employee. This is a multi-line field. Pressing ENTER in the Notes[ field adds lines to the field. Press the TAB key to move to the next field.
NOTE: The fields in your database files are completely customizable as are the contents of the Pick Lists. See Customizing Your Databases for more information on how to reformat, add, and delete fields and Pick Lists in each of your askSam RTS databases.
