askSam: Tell us about your organization and the work you do.

PAUL DEANE: I am a librarian by profession.  After several years of moonlighting, I started working as a consultant full time a few years ago.  My clients usually need help in managing libraries or information, many times full text in nature.  I help with setting up databases, indexes and other management tools.  In the course of this work, I recommended askSam several times and managed projects in which askSam was used.  Pleased with the experience, I became a provider.

askSam: Which of our product(s) do you use and what kind of information do you have in your askSam database(s)?

PAUL DEANE: I have used askSam Pro and hope to be adding a few databases with Web Publisher soon.  Some of the types of information that I or my clients have stored in askSam include:

(1) Quotations from books and journals for an executive that makes speeches. The initial  database had 32,000 records between 1/2 and 3 pages long.

(2) Hard-to-answer questions with an answer and citation for source in a public library.

(3) Several clients have databases that include magazine and newspaper articles, e-mail, web site text, and miscellaneous. information.

(4) Business leads with notes.

(5) Bibliographic information with graphics of covers for a rare book collection.

askSam:  Why did you select askSam over other products?

PAUL DEANE: Several reasons.

     1. Ease of use in developing databases and a quick start up.

     2. Easy to train end users to use askSam.

     3. Full text capabilities.

     4. Ability to have records with different field structure.

     5. Low cost of software.

     6. Ease of importing variety of data.

askSam: In what ways has askSam helped you in your daily routine?

PAUL DEANE:  I frequently store email, correspondence, contact files in askSam.

askSam:   How has askSam saved you time or money?

PAUL DEANE:  Development time for askSam projects is fraction of time that I have to spend with Access or Foxpro.

askSam: What applications do your plan for askSam in the future?

PAUL DEANE:   Right now I am looking at putting some databases online so that several public libraries can share them.  Some day I also plan on having an askSam database of rare books for sale on a web site.
