askSam is Chosen by the Special Court of Sierra Leone to Help Prosecute War Crimes

Perry, FL -- askSam Systems, Inc. was selected by the Special Court to Sierra Leone as the vendor to provide database software and consulting services.

The Special Court to Sierra Leone is an organization established pursuant to a United Nations Security Council resolution authorizing the U.N. Secretary General to enter into negotiations with the Government of Sierra Leone to establish a Special Court. The purpose of the Special Court is to prosecute persons who bear the greatest responsibility for serious violations of international humanitarian law and Sierra Leonean law since November 30, 1996. The agreement finalized between the U.N. and the Government of Sierra Leone was executed on Jan 16, 2002.

The Special Court plans on using the askSam software to build an investigative database that will enable the investigators and the prosecutors of the special court to amass evidence on the subjects alleged to have committed crimes against humanity. It is envisioned that much evidence will be collected. The staff of the Special Court was in need of a reliable and robust database that will enable them to catalog and keep track of paper and digital evidence. The Special Court also required strong retrieval capabilities to quickly locate stored evidence; for this purpose, the strong search engine built into the askSam database software was considered essential for the Court's operational requirements.
