Alexa: Web Site Traffic Ratings
================================================================
The Surf Report - vol. 58 www.askSam.com
================================================================
Tuesday, November 14, 2005
We had some email problems when we sent out the previous Surf
Report - many of you didn't receive it. Rather than resending,
we've written a new one. You can check out the previous one
at: http://www.asksam.com/four/surf57/
First, we've put together a database with selected opinions of
Supreme Court nominee, Samuel Alito. This was highly requested,
and we hope you find it useful. In case you didn't receive the
last email, we also put together a couple other databases: Romeo
& Juliet and a database of Area Codes and Time Zones.
The new article is about Alexa's traffic ratings. If you ever
wondered what sites are the most popular, or if you wanted to
know how much traffic a Web site gets... Alexa can help.
We also have a special offer on Cloak, a neat product that helps
keep your computer safe and protect your privacy. Cloak lets
you encrypt files and email, clean-up cookies and other
temporary files, and permanently delete files from your
computer.
Enjoy.

1) Alexa - Web Site Traffic Ratings
Ever wonder how popular a Web site is? Alexa can tell you.
Alexa offers a popular toolbar (they report over 10 million
downloads). The toolbar tracks the sites that users visit, and
Alexa provides information on the traffic ratings of different
Web sites.
Even if you don't want to use their toolbar, you can still go to
the Alexa Web site and search for traffic ratings of different
Web sites.
The top 5 sites at the time I'm writing: Yahoo, MSN, Google,
EBay, and Passport.net.
In addition to traffic, Alexa also tracks links to the Site,
related sites, information about the site owner, and via their
"Wayback Machine" - snapshots of Web sites from years ago.

it in a searchable database:

3) Special Offer: Cloak - Secure Your Documents and Email
The downside to high-speed Internet access is the ability
hackers have to access your computer. To keep my data secure, I
use a utility called Cloak.
Cloak allows you to compress and encrypt documents, hide
documents within images (I've never done that), send encrypted
emails, permanently delete files, and erase cookies and other
temporary Internet files.
As more of us do on-line banking and store confidential business
and personal information on computers, it's important to keep
security in mind.

4) Tech Tip: Adding/Copying Entry Forms From Another Database
Recently we've had a number of users ask if there was a way they
could use an entry form from one of our pre-defined templates in
their own databases. There are also users who would like to
copy an entry form from an existing database. Our tech tip
explains how:
