Importing Text files that don't have a .txt file extension
You probably already know that askSam is able to import data from a large number of different sources and formats. However, occasionally you may encounter a file whose 3-letter file extension may not conform to the usual standards.
Recently some of our users have inquired if askSam is able to import ASCII text files that do not have a .TXT extension. At first look, askSam seems to require a TXT extension in order to import these text files, but there is a workaround.
This can be done by taking the following steps.
1. Open or create your askSam database. Then go to FILE > IMPORT
2. Set your "File Type:" to "Any file - Link or Attach Only(*.*)"

3. This should allow you to browse to and select the text files you would like to import, regardless of their file extension.
4. After selecting the text files, you can change your "File Type:" to "Text (*.txt)"

Note: When you switch your "Files of Type" back to "Text", you should still be able to see your selected filenames in the "File Name" box.

5. Click the IMPORT button to begin the import process.
This should cause askSam to import your ASCII text files as though they had a .TXT file extension.
