New Features in Citation 9:
- Quick Search -
The Main Edit window for Citation 9 includes a Quick Search box. You can enter a term in the text box to retrieve a list of all
records containing the search term.
- Search Results Dialog
- Search for Record now includes an option to display a Search Results dialog, listing all records in the datafile matching the search criteria.
When you click the All Records option on the Search for Record dialog, Citation displays matching records in the Search Results
Dialog.
- Cite Current Record
- With Citation 9, it is no longer necessary to open the Short List view and highlight the work you want to cite.
The Cite Current Record Button on the Main Edit window lets you enter a Cite Key for the current
record.
- Cite Dialog
- With Citation 9, it is no longer necessary to manually enter specific page references for your cite keys. When you click the Cite button on the Short List, or the new Cite Current Record button on the Main Edit screen, Citation displays a Cite Dialog. Enter the specific reference, and click OK to insert the Cite Key into your document. If there is not a specific page reference, leave the text box blank.
- Toolbar Buttons
- The Main Edit window for Citation 9 includes a Toolbar with buttons for frequently used program features.
- Recently Opened File List
- With Citation 9, you no longer need to use the Windows Open File dialog to find your datafiles. Citation 9 lists recently opened datafiles on the File menu.
- Number of Records in Datafile
- The Main Edit screen for Citation 9 displays the total number of records in your datafile, along with the number of the current
record.
- Mark Records
- With Citation 9, you can create subsets quickly and easily by marking records in the Short List View or Search Results Dialog.
To mark records, just hold down the Ctrl key and highlight the record. You can mark as many records as you like.
Click the Tag Marked Button to tag the records you have marked. You can then Generate a Bibliography or Notecards for the tagged records.
- Write Bibliography for Marked
Records - Once you have created a subset of tagged records, you can write a bibliography for the records by clicking the new Tagged option on the Generate Bibliography
dialog.
- Automatic Field Completion
- With Citation 9, you no longer need to retype names, places, publishers, years, and keywords you have already entered in your datafile. Just start typing, and Citation finds the first word in the datafile that matches the letters you've entered, and enters this as grayed text in the field. Enter more characters to refine the match.
- Load Keyword from File, Write
Keywords to File - Citation 9 lets you import keywords to your datafile from an editable file. You can edit the keyword list by opening c:\citation\keywords.ini from the Program menu. You can also write an alphabetized list of all the Keywords in your datafile by clicking File, Keyword List.
- Compact Datafile -
When you edit or delete records in earlier versions of Citation, a duplicate of the record is stored in your datafile. Over a long period, these duplicates can build up in your datafile, slowing down searches and taking up unnecessary disk space. The File, Save feature in Citation 9 compacts your datafile, clearing out deleted and edited records. Compacting your datafile speeds searches and saves disk space.
- Portable Citation Pack
- We've included a Portable Citation Pack with Citation 9. Portable Citation is a trim version of Citation -- including all the files necessary for the program to function -- that will fit on a memory card that you can take with you to the library, on vacation, and use with other computers. The space required for Portable Citation is so small that you'll even have room on your memory card for your
datafile.
- Document Templates
- Citation 9 includes pre-formatted Word and Word Perfect documents, with page headers, margins, etc., for research papers in APA and MLA style. Formatting styles for section headers and quotes are built in to the templates. The templates are rtf documents you can create, save with a new name, and use as a guide for meeting the document style requirements.

"askSam is an essential part of my software tool chest. I can research and collect data from anywhere and any source. Once it is in askSam I can edit, rearrange, organize, and search the information easily. Then I can present it and make it totally useful for other people via the web or CD. Fantastic!"
