Archiving AOL / Web-Based email with askSam
As you probably already know, askSam is able to import and archive email stored in most major email applications, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape, PocoMail, etc. However, many of our askSam users have email accounts with other systems like AOL, Yahoo Mail, MSN or HotMail. Although we don't have a direct way to import these into askSam, archiving messages from these systems is actually a lot easier than you might think.
Importing from AOL
You cannot import AOL email directly from the AOL mail client, because they use their own unique email protocols and proprietary mail software. There is a workaround.
There are applications available on the Web that work as a protocol translator allowing you to download your AOL email into almost any email application (for example Outlook or Eudora). One such application is called eMail2Pop (www.eMail2Pop.com).

This program interfaces with AOL's email server and allows you to download AOL email into any mail application. You can then import the email directly from one of those email clients into askSam.
eMail2Pop costs $25.76, at www.eMail2Pop.com, with spam filtering available at an additional rate. There is also a 14-day trial version available.
Importing from Web-based email (Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail)
There is a similar protocol translator available that will allow you to import your Web-based email account into an email application that is compatible with askSam. This service is called IzyMail Online.
Setting up your email account with IzyMail is relatively easy. Simply logon to their "Get Started" page ( http://izymail.com/imo_getstarted.aspx ), and follow the on-screen instructions.
There is also a handy "Outlook (Express) Auto-configuration" button that will automatically create a new account inside Outlook 2002 or Outlook Express. If you use a different email application, it's easy to manually configure a new IzyMail account. Please consult your application's online help documentation for detailed configuration steps.
After you have configured your email client to download your emails from the server, you can set up filters to automatically file your messages into individual folders in your email application.
These steps will automatically sign you up for a free 2 week trial of the IzyMail service.
You can sign-up for a permanent account at: http://izymail.com/imo_subscribe.aspx for as low as $ 10.95 for a full year subscription. (Please go to www.izymail.com for the latest pricing info)
We hope you enjoy archiving your Web-based email into askSam.
See all tips.
