How to use askSam data with your PDA
A question we get asked frequently is "How can I view my askSam data on my Palm, or PDA device?". Although we do not currently have a version of askSam for PDA's, there is a way you can export your existing askSam data to a format that Palm database programs can recognize.

Freeform text
You can very easily export your freeform text out of askSam to Plain Text or Rich Text format. These files can then be transferred to your PDA for use with one of their text-viewing applications.
A couple of the more popular text viewers for PDAs are WordToGo (part of DocumentsToGo) and QuickWord (part of QuickOffice)
Exporting askSam data to Text:
1. Go to FILE -> EXPORT -> ENTIRE FILE. (If you do not want to export all of the documents, you can choose EXPORT -> SELECT DOCUMENTS to run a search, or EXPORT -> REMEMBERED LIST to only export documents from one of your Remembered Lists.)

2. Set your "Export Type:" to "Text (*.TXT)".

(If you want to retain formatting information, such as paragraph spacing and text attributes, you can select "Rich Text Format (*.RTF)" as your "Export Type:". You should check to see if your Palm text viewer can view Rich Text Documents before selecting this option.)

3. Give your exported file a name, and click SAVE.

This will export your entire database to one long text document. If you want to export the documents as separate files, they will have to be done one at a time by browsing to the document and pressing FILE > EXPORT > CURRENT DOCUMENT.

Structured/Fielded data
Some of the more popular options are SheetToGo (part of DocumentsToGo), QuickSheet (part of QuickOffice), MobileDB and TinySheet. All of these applications support Text Delimited (CSV) files.
Exporting askSam data to CSV:

2. Set your "Export Type:" to "Text Delimited".

3. Give your exported file a name, and click SAVE.

4. On the "Select Fields" screen, choose the fields you want to export, and click OK.

TIP: If all of your fields are single-line fields, you can select all of the fields by pressing the "Add All" button. If your file contains a mixture of single and multi-line fields, it is extremely important that you specify the type when adding the fields.

The exported data file is now ready to be transferred to your Palm database program.

Contacts/Address Book
You can export your askSam contacts database for use with Palm's built-in contact manager by following the same steps as above. However, there is something you need to watch out for.
The contact manager in Palm devices requires that the first name and last name of your contacts must be in separate fields, so make sure that your askSam database is also formatted that way.
Here is a list of the fields that the Palm contact manager looks for.
LastName, FirstName, Title, Company, phone1, phone2, phone3, phone4, E-mail, Street, City, State, Zip, Country, Custom1, Custom2, Custom3, Custom4, NoteField
