Attach Original Files to askSam Documents

With askSam 5 you can now attach any file from your hard drive directly to an askSam document. You can attach the original file as you import or add individual or multiple files to an existing askSam document. Attachments are stored as part of your askSam database so you will never lose them.

Advantages of using attachments include...

·     Save attachments when importing your email

·     Save original copies of files that you import (for example Word or Acrobat)

·     Attaching pictures, graphics, illustrations, videos, or other useful files to

·     Save disk space - attached files are compressed to conserve disk space

·     Always know where to find your file. Use askSam to search for and quickly access the original file.

·     Easily Save Attachments from askSam back to your hard drive

Attachments in askSam work much like attachments in email. When a file is attached to your askSam document the attachment icon (a paperclip) will be highlighted in your navigation bar at the bottom of the askSam screen.

To view an attachment simply click on this icon and select the file you wish to view.

You can also access the attachments by selection Document _> Attachments. From this menu you can select an attachment and click VIEW to open it in it's original format.

There are three ways to attach a file to an askSam document...

You can attach a file to any document in your existing database. To attach a file, for example a picture, to your document...

·     Go to the document where you wish to attach the file

·     Choose Document -> Attachments

·     Choose ADD

·     In the ADD ATTACHMENTS dialog browse to and select the file you wish to attach

·     Click ATTACH

Attaching a File with Email Import

When importing email messages using the askSam Import Email Wizard you can set askSam to attach files from your email to the message once it is imported into askSam. To do this choose...

·     Choose File -> Import Email

·     Select the email profile you wish to use

·     Choose EDIT

·     Select the Import Option Tab

·     Choose YES

Attaching a File with Import

When importing documents into askSam you can save the original file while importing the text. To save an attachment while importing...

·     Choose File -> Import

·     Select the file type and file you wish to import

·     Choose the Save Attachments Option

·     Select "Save Original File As An Attachment"

Attachments are a great way to archive and keep track of your files. Attachments reside within the askSam file. So, if you move the askSam file your attachments will move too. You can remove attachments from a document by selecting the REMOVE or REMOVE ALL buttons in the Attachments menu. You can also RENAME attachments as well as use the SAVE AS option to save the file back out to your hard drive.
