askSam -  How Did I Live Before You?

My first use of a computer was to hold up Post-It messages. Then, once upon a time, when I learned to turn on a computer, (and I was still lugging around a brick called a ComPaq "Portable"), I discovered a wonderful program called Memo Mate. This was back in the days when the Internal Revenue Code was much shorter and life was much simpler. But even then, storing and retrieving information was starting to become an urgent and overwhelming task. Memo Mate absorbed and remembered not only the myriad of technical information - and everyday flood of information that came across my desk and through my phone lines - but graciously recalled it - when my own mind was overwhelmed and frantic.

That DOS program is long gone, but fortunately replaced by a much more robust third generation software product which neither I nor any of my staff could live without. I have to admit, I've used askSam for about 6 months and I've still not begun to take full advantage of its vast capabilities. Even at the surface level (which is often where I and most other attorneys stop with most software) it pays for itself many times every day in terms of saving me both time and aggravation. And it makes me look good too!

Every time the phone rings, I use askSam so I have a record of every call that comes in or out. I can contemporaneously capture the substance and context of every conversation and can instantly recall (even years later) what we talked about, and how to get back in touch with my caller. Best of all, by merely recalling any (and I mean ANY information about a person, even if they have a dog)  I can find that person and recall information about him or her - again.

Most attorneys know the importance of contemporaneous documentation, but few of us have the means to do it in a quick, timely and cost-efficient manner. askSam is the answer to that problem.

At LISI (Leimberg Information Services, Inc.), we live and die by tax information, and our ability to store and retrieve it. Before askSam, I either scribbled my research notes on a yellow pad or stuck them into WORD or WordPerfect, only to be frustratingly lost over time. Now any research notes, phone calls, or emails I may want to retrieve are effortlessly and seamlessly incorporated into askSam.

I now have a bullet-proof browse and search "filing cabinet" system that takes virtually no time to learn, set up, or use. So information and commentary on cases, rulings, recent legislation - and important email messages - which I cut and paste into askSam - is at my fingertips in seconds.

askSam has become the repository of choice for the statistics, humor, stories, and other gems I incorporate into my speeches, magazine and newsletter articles, and press releases.

"askSam is an essential part of my software tool chest. I can research and collect data from anywhere and any source. Once it is in askSam I can edit, rearrange, organize, and search the information easily. Then I can present it and make it totally useful for other people via the web or CD. Fantastic!"
