I was stuck. I had taken over the sole recruiting position within Threshold Consulting Services. We are a small consulting firm that specializes in Business Intelligence, and I act as an internal recruiter and do outside placement on a national basis. I had inherited about 1,000 resumes and a weak economy. How does the new recruiter go to her new bosses and ask for major bucks for an Applicant Tracking System? Not the best way to win a popularity contest.
I needed to find resumes from past and present alike. Like many before me, I went the ACT! route and it didn't work with resume querying and retrieval - terrible for recruiting. Then I resorted to using the FIND function with a text search in MSOffice - without the Boolean search is was a waste of time! I got desperate and started searching the recruiting boards and found recommendations for askSam. I dug a little further. There were three key things about askSam that intrigued me:
- 1. It was competitively priced
- 2. Allowed for mass imports (unlike like-priced competition)
- 3. A Boolean search engine to die for.
This search engine has major gusto and will allow for deletes on the fly. It also remembers prior searches via a drop down menu and if you use more than one resume file (like I do) the search is retained. It was so nice and what a refreshing change - powerful!
Getting started with askSam took a little getting used to, but once you understand the way it works -it is so easy! I created two resume files. One is used for my blasted resumes from list servers and the other files for resumes that were received from referrals and postings. Once I made the decision, and gathered everything together, I had about 2,500 resumes. I had the folks at askSam help me out and paid for them to do most of the importing (which cost about $100). A day later - I was ready to rock with askSam.
With the ability to search all my resumes in seconds, managing my candidates was a breeze. From the get go I was able to do a search on candidates immediately, while on the phone with my boss. Versus getting back to him the next day fumbling through the mass resume repository It was great, and if they wanted to see the resume, I just cut and paste it into email and they have it within seconds. It is wonderful to have a single location for the interview notes versus tracking all that data on email alone. My bosses are thrilled and so am I. Thank you askSam!
