Question I opened my SurfSaver 2 file in askSam 5. Now, when I go to save a new page or search through my saved pages, I get the message "This file requires a newer version of the askSam Engine." What does this mean?

Answer SurfSaver 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 are based on the askSam 4 engine, so basically files saved with these versions are really askSam 4 files. When you open these files in askSam 5, they are converted to version 5 format. Since askSam 4 cannot open version 5 files, neither can SurfSaver 2.0, 2.1, or 2.2.
Resolution There are 2 options:
1. We have a new free version of SurfSaver built on the version 5 engine. This new version is compatible with askSam 5. We have also removed the banner ad software from this new version.
You can download SurfSaver 2.3 by clicking the link below:
http://www.asksam.com/asksam5/surfsaver/SurfSaver.exe
Note: You must have askSam build 5.0.2.596 or higher for it to be compatible with SurfSaver 2.3. You can find out what build you are running by clicking HELP > ABOUT ASKSAM.
If you need a copy of SurfSaver 2.3 PRO, please contact tech@askSam.com
2. If you do not plan on upgrading to askSam 5, and need to get the file back to SurfSaver 2.2, there is a way.
When askSam converts a file to a new format, it creates a backup in the same directory with an AS4 file extension. For example, if you opened your Archive.ASK file in askSam 5, you should have a file in the same directory called Archive.AS4.
Simply delete the version 5 file with the ASK extension, and rename the version 4 file with the AS4 file extension back to ASK and you should be able to open it in Surfsaver 2.2 again.
