Question I downloaded the askSam Web publisher. Its requirements said I need "32 bit web server software such as Microsoft IIS." What is this? Where do I get it? How do I know if I have it already?
Answer You can check IIS on your computer by -
Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
You will see a list of programs installed there. If you see IIS or Internet Information Server, then you won't have to install a new version. If you don't see it listed there, then follow the instructions below.
Microsoft IIS comes with a CD of certain operating Systems. It comes with the following -
1. Windows NT
2. Windows 98
3. Windows 2000
4. Windows XP Professional
If you are running either of the above, and if you have the CD, then you can put the CD in the CD tray.
Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
Click on Add Programs.
Choose the IIS.
Follow the instructions during installation.
If you are running Windows ME or Windows XP Home Edition, then Microsoft does not support IIS for these OS. In that case, you can download Apache Web Server. It works on all Windows Operating systems.
