Question
How do I use the askSam Web Publisher with Microsofts's Personal Web Server?
NOTE: Microsoft discontinued supporting of PWS Web Server as of Windows XP's release. We cannot guarantee the working of Web Publisher on PWS.
Answer
Follow the steps below for Installation.
Resolution
Installing Microsoft's Personal Web Server.
1. Run the Setup.exe program.
2. Select Typical Install for the Install Dialog
3. Select the Default Directory for installation. C:\InetPub\
4. When asked to reboot your machine select Yes.
Note- Unlike the Web Server of the Past The Personal Web Server access your Computer description for the name of the LocalHost. If you are not on-line and wish to view your default Home Page-
1. You will need to know the name of your computer. If you do not know the name Select Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> NetWork.
Under the Network Dialog Select -> Identification.
2. Start your Web Browser.
3. In the Location:(Netscape) or Address:(Internet Explore) enter -
http://ComputerDescription/
This should display the default Home page.
Installing the askSam Web Publisher.
1. The directory for the cgi-bin location in the Microsoft Personal Web Server is C:\InetPub\WWWROOT\Cgi-Bin\. This is the location you should enter in the Cgi-Bin Location. (If you have created your own CGI-BIN directory you should enter that directory for the Cgi-Bin Location.)
2. The directory for Images in the Microsoft Personal Web Server is C:\InetPub\WWWROOT\Images\. This is the location you should enter in the Graphic Location. (If you have created your own Images directory you should enter that directory for the Images Location.)
3. In the Graphic URL dialog enter- /Images/
4. Follow the rest of the Setup Program dialogs.
Using the askSam Web Publisher with Microsoft Personal Web Server.
1. Start your Web Browser.
3. In the Location:(Netscape) or Address: (Internet Explore) enter -
http://ComputerDescription/Cgi-bin/as_web.exe?WPubDoc.Ask+F
