Topic ERROR MSG: "The Import DLL is having problems"
Applies_To askSam, askSam Eudora
Version 6.x, 5.x
Last_Update 05/25/2005
Question Whenever I go to FILE -> IMPORT, I get the error message:
"The Import DLL is having problems, please contact tech support"

Answer There are a couple of different causes for this error.
If you are running Eudora as your email client, there is probably a conflict with the MAPI32.DLL.
Eudora needs to replace the Microsoft MAPI32.DLL with it's own "Eudora" version in order to function. Likewise, askSam needs to use the original Microsoft MAPI32.DLL (before Eudora replaces it), so there is a conflict. There is a setting inside Eudora that should allow both programs to function correctly.
If you are not using Eudora as your email client the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) component is missing, damaged or corrupted.
Resolution
==================================================================
Fix #1 (If you are not using Eudora as your email application, please proceed to Fix #2)
1. Launch Eudora.
2. Go to TOOLS -> OPTIONS
3. Select the category called "MAPI" from the list on the left.
4. Set the option "Use Eudora MAPI Server:" to "When Eudora is running", then click OK.

With this setting, Eudora swaps in the Eudora MAPI DLLs when Eudora starts and unswaps the Eudora MAPI DLLs when Eudora quits. When running Eudora, the Eudora MAPI files will be in place, effectively disabling askSam's import abilities. While Eudora is not running, askSam should be able to import, since Eudora restores the original Microsoft MAPI DLLs in the Windows SYSTEM directory.

Fix #2: To resolve this behavior, rename the Mapi32.dll, and then run the Fixmapi.exe utility (close all applications before doing this):
1. Click START -> FIND (or SEARCH), and then click "Files or Folders".
2. In the "Named" box, type Mapi32.dll.
3. In the "Look in:" box, click your primary hard disk (usually drive C), and then click Find Now.
4. Right-click the Mapi32.dll file that appears, then click "Rename".
5. Type Mapi32.old, and then click OK.
6. In the "Named" box, type Fixmapi.exe, and then click "Find Now".
7. Double-click the Fixmapi.exe file that appears.
8. After the hourglass disappears, close the current dialog box, and then restart your computer.
9. After it restarts, retry importing into askSam.
