Use askSam to archive email

You probably already know that askSam is a great tool for archiving and searching email - especially now, with the addition of new email import filters in askSam 4.1. askSam now makes archiving email easier than ever with the addition of import filters for Outlook Express and Mbox format as well as filters to interpret HTML code, remove unwanted email header information, and automatically turn common email items, such as date, subject, to and from, into askSam fields.

Did you know that askSam 4.1 will also allow you to import email messages by date? Now you can easily archive your email folders without having to re-import the entire folder every time. With the import date feature of askSam 4.1 you can easily import only the messages that you have sent or received since the last import into askSam.

askSam 4.1 has many additional features that enhance the email storage and retrieval process. One feature that will make the import procedure much more convenient is the ability to import messages by message date. The "Message Date Range" feature was added so that you can quickly import newly added emails into an askSam document without having to import the entire folder again. Here's how it works.

1. Choose FILE -> IMPORT.

2. Select your type of email from the "Files of Type" box.

Note: From this box you can choose: Outlook Express, Mbx (ie Netscape, Pocomail), or Eudora. To import Outlook choose FILE -> IMPORT OUTLOOK.

3. Locate the folder and email file containing the messages you wish to import

4. In the import options box at the bottom of the import dialog choose "Message Date Range"

5. Click "Select Messages when date...", choose your date range and select OK.

For example - If you imported your email box on October 17 2001 and wish to now import only messages added after that date set the modifier to greater than (>) and the date box to 10/17/2001. You can type in a date in this box or use the arrow buttons to scroll through dates or the pull-down calendar on the far right to select your date.

6. Select IMPORT to import only the email messages that fall in the selected date range.
