Customization, Options, and Tools
Changing the askSam Screen
It is possible to the increase your work space by selectively hiding various sections of the screen.
From the VIEW Menu, you can choose to remove any of the following:
Toolbars (Standard, Format, etc.)
Search Line
Ruler
Search Results window
1. Choose VIEW -> DISPLAY.
The Toolbars Dialog Box will appear. This dialog lists the removable sections of the askSam screen.

2. Select the screen sections you want to change and choose OK.
The askSam screen changes to reflect your selection.
NOTE: You can also customize and create new Toolbars. For details, see the section on “Customizing Toolbars” later in this chapter.
1. Choose VIEW -> RULER or VIEW -> SEARCH RESULTS

NOTES:
1. The Ruler setting is saved on a per file basis. You can have it turned off for some files and on for others.
2. The Search Results window will reopen the next time you enter a search.
3. You can also close the Search Results window by clicking on the close button on the Search Results toolbar.
Customizing Toolbars
You can choose any command from the askSam menus and insert a button for this command in a toolbar. In addition, you can create new toolbars and modify existing ones.
To Customize Toolbars:
1. Choose TOOLS -> CUSTOMIZE -> TOOLBARS.
The Customize Dialog Box will appear.

This dialog box contains the following options:
OPTION DESCRIPTION
TOOLBARS Turn specific toolbars on and off, by checking or unchecking the toolbar.
NEW Create a new toolbar, by choosing the NEW button and then selecting the COMMANDS tab and dragging buttons to the new toolbar.
RESET Reset an existing toolbar to its default commands. Select the toolbar you wish to reset and choose the RESET button.
SHOW TOOLTIPS Turn the tooltip function on and off. Tooltips are short, descriptive texts that appear when you point to a button. By default, tooltips are turned on.
COOL LOOK Affects the type of button that is displayed in the toolbars.
LARGE BUTTONS Affects the size of the buttons displayed in the toolbars.
COMMANDS The Commands tab displays all the buttons in askSam. The buttons are divided into to different categories. Select the category for a button, and then drag and drop it into the toolbar. When you drag a button onto a toolbar, you must place it next to an existing button.
2. Choose the COMMAND tab.

3. Select the category for the command you want to add.
The buttons in this category will be displayed.
4. Select the button you want and drag and drop it onto a toolbar. In order for the button to be placed in an existing toolbar, you have to drop it on top of an existing button - on either the right or left side of the existing button… depending on where you want the button placed.
To remove a button from a toolbar, click on the button and drag it off the toolbar.
5. When you're done modifying the toolbar, choose OK.
Customizing the Keyboard
askSam lets you define shortcut keys to askSam commands. You can setup shortcut keys to functions that you frequently use, or you can modify the existing shortcut keys that we've defined.
To Customize the Keyboard:
1. Choose TOOLS -> CUSTOMIZE -> KEYBOARD.
The Customize Keyboard Dialog Box will appear.

This dialog contains the following options:
OPTION DESCRIPTION
COMMANDS Lists all the askSam commands. Select the command for which you'd like to define a shortcut key.
CURRENT ASSIGNMENT Shows the current shortcut key assigned to this command (if any shortcut is available).
ASSIGN Displays a dialog that lets you define a shortcut key.
REMOVE Removes an existing shortcut key from a command.
RESET ALL Resets all the shortcut keys to their original default values.
2. Select a command.
3. Choose the ASSIGN button.
The Assign Shortcut Dialog Box will appear.

4. Press the shortcut key you want for this command and choose OK.
The shortcut key will be set. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for further commands.
5. Choose CLOSE when you've completed customizing the keyboard.
