Release Notes for askSam 5

These release notes describe all the feature enhancements and bug fixes we have made to askSam 5 since its final release. These release notes are updated whenever we release a new build, so please check back for new information.

The latest version of askSam is 5.1 and the latest build is 5.1.2.641. To find out which version and build are you running, click on Help > About askSam.

Build 5.1.2.641 ( askSam 5.1 ) Released on February 25, 2004

Ÿ Full Email Headers with Outlook 2003 - Full email headers were not being imported from Outlook 2003.

Ÿ Outbox Email Import from Eudora - Outbox emails were not being imported previously.

Ÿ Mailbox Display with PocoMail 3 - Mailboxes were not being displayed automatically on the email import wizard for version 3.  

Build 5.1.2.637 ( askSam 5.1 ) Released on December 11, 2003

Ÿ File corruption problems with Network version - Documents were being corrupted when multiple users simultaneously added information to the file.

Ÿ Import Email into an Entry Form - Users were not able to select the entry form during the Import Email wizard. This happened when the file they want to import email into was open. We have corrected this problem.

Ÿ Wrong IMAP screen - On the Import Email screen, wrong IMAP screen was being showed to the users if they clicked on an incomplete profile or profiles that are there by default and user has not completed them. This screen is not shown anymore.

Ÿ Attachment clip - Attachments clip is no more grayed out when users go in the document by double clicking on the report output.

Ÿ File size issue - Files of Gigabyte in size can now be opened and worked on. Previously, we had problems with bigger files.

Build 5.1.2.625 ( askSam 5.1 RC2 / Final Release ) Released on February 06, 2002

Ÿ Email import would give an error or do nothing if no messages were imported. - If an any Email folder were empty then no import status dialog would appear. Leading the user to think the import was not working. If an Email profile's date range selection returned no messages then the "Internal Error" message would appear.

Ÿ Not all document names would be displayed in the Set Hypertext Link dialog - Files with a large amount of documents would not display all of the document names in the "Set Hypertext Link" dialog.

Build 5.1.2.622 ( askSam 5.1 RC1 ) Released on January 28, 2002

Ÿ Right clicking on a hypertext link then choosing Edit Link would not edit link pointing at - The context menu would either gray out the Edit Link option or edit the wrong link.

Ÿ Added Search Attachments to the customize options & hyptertext link options - The feature was missing from the customize toolbar and keyboard, and missing from the Hyptertext Link dialog.

Ÿ Added Default button to noise words index dialog, to reset them to the default file setting - Users can now reset the noise words in their files to the default list.

Ÿ Picklists in the Entryform Wizard would sometimes lose the last entry in the list -When reusing a pick list from within the Entryform Wizard, the last item in the list would be lost if the text to be inserted was the same as the display text.

Ÿ Added the ability to turn on and off the drag & drop feature of the editor - The feature had always been on with no way of turning it off.

Ÿ Fixed blank status during an Email import - Sometimes the status of an Email import would only display the number of documents imported. All other information was blank.

Ÿ Dates in Email import are now stored in the date format of the askSam file - Dates had previously been saved using the system date format.  Also all Email import dialogs that display a date display them in the askSam file's date format.

Ÿ Outlook import now saves the email senders address as well as the name - By using MAPI the Outlook import can determine the email senders address too.

Ÿ Emails with multiple external attachments would only save one attachment - Emails with multiple attachments that are not embedded in the message would only import/save the first attachment.

Ÿ Importing multiple delimited files with Textpipe, the import wizard only appears once - Previously the wizard would appear for each file being imported.

Ÿ File errors are logged during email import for potential profile problems - Email imports sometimes would not work, no dialog, status, etc. This could be caused by the failure of askSam to properly access the profile emw file. Errors are now logged with other email import errors

Ÿ Files opened exclusively would not export the index words list - The word list would not be exported if the file was opened exclusively or opened in the Single User version.

Build 5.1.2.615 ( askSam 5.1 Beta 3 ) Released on Decemober 10, 2002

Ÿ IMAP import would not always show folders or import any mail - MAP import with incorrect settings would not show folders or import mail. With this build, when a user creates a IMAP profile the settings are tested before the the folder list is displayed. If the connection cannot be made to the IMAP server, then the user is presented with an error message. The IMAP connection is also tested when the user edits and saves the profile if they make any changes to to the IMAP settings.

Ÿ Importing files using a Textpipe filter sometimes brought up the Invalid filetype dialog - When importing an unsupported file type while using TextPipe filtering, this dialog would appear and the user could not import the file. Also when using TextPipe filtering the file might be imported as text and not the correct type.

Ÿ Import email with a date range set would import all messages - The set date range dialog would allow users to set a range without a comparison operator (<, >, <=, or >=).  This would cause all messages to be imported.

Ÿ Editing a stored search multiple times would duplicate the stored search - If a user modified a stored search so as to make it larger (more search terms etc), then edit it again to make it smaller; the search would be duplicated in the file.

Ÿ Right clicking on a hypertext link then choosing Edit Link would not edit link pointing at - The context menu would either gray out the Edit Link option or edit the wrong link.

Ÿ Trailing zeros of tabs were being deleted. Example, 10 cm would be saved as 1 cm -Instead of just removing the trailing zeros after the decimal point, all trailing zeros were removed.

Build 5.1.2.611 ( askSam 5.1 Beta 2 ) Released on November 15, 2002

Ÿ Select All folders with email wizard for IMAP or Outlook would not import - When selecting all folders with the "Select All" checkbox for IMAP or Outlook would not import anything. No dialog would appear.

Ÿ Spin button in Proximity dialog worked backwards - Clicking on the up arrow for the quantity spin button decreased the value as the down arrow increased the value.

Ÿ Import attachments would display a temp file name when import the attachment - Dialog now displays "Importing Attachment" instead of the temp file name.  Dialog also displays correct number of messages imported.

Ÿ Filenames with periods in them may not import - If the Windows Options "Hide file extensions for known file types" were turned on and the file to be imported contained a period; then askSam would incorrectly parse the filename and then be unable to locate the file.

Ÿ History list did not contain the document name - The History list dialog would show the document name as "Untitled" even if the document had a name.

Ÿ Import not working with XP - When trying to import anything (including Email) the user would get 2 error messages. "Filename contains invalid path" and a "Sharing violation" error.

Ÿ Imported WordPerfect files would not be attached when selected to do so - When save attachments is selected and importing a WordPerfect document, the document would not have the file attached after import completes.

Ÿ IMAP email import would not work if a firewall existed - IMAP import would not work if a filewalll was present. This was due to the username & password not being saved.  Therefore; the folder list would not display and/or the import would not take place.

Ÿ Could not import email into entryform - The email options dialog would not always show the entryforms available to import into.

Ÿ Editing a stored search multiple times would duplicate the stored search - If a user modified a stored search so as to make it larger (more search terms etc), then edit it again to make it smaller; the search would be duplicated in the file.

Ÿ Search multiple files no longer asks for the password if the "Default" setting has no password - Previously the password was always requested for each file.

Build 5.1.2.610 ( askSam 5.1 Beta 1 ) Released on November 01, 2002

Ÿ Search for Link Text did not work correctly  - f you clicked on a "Search for Link Text" hypertext link. And the hypertext link ended at the end of the list and not in the middle of the line.

Ÿ More than 5 remembered lists caused document type menu to behave erratically - If a file contained more than 5 remembered lists, the document type menu remember options did not work properly.

Ÿ Duplicate attachment names were permitted - The user was able to rename an attachment with the name of an existing attachment.

Ÿ IMAP email import added - TIMAP email added to "Import Email" feature.

Ÿ Added Export Wordlist - Users can now export the index word list to either text or askSam format.

Ÿ Adding a new document of a different type would not unlock current document - When adding a new document of a different type than the current document when no documents of the new type exist, the current document would not be unlocked.

Ÿ Added Export Wordlist - Users can now export the index word list to either text or askSam format.

Ÿ Only the "$" was being saved in File Properties - No matter what character was was entered in the Currency Symbol field, only the dollar sign was used.

Ÿ New feature, export word list to text or csv file - Users of the pro version can now export the index word list.  If exporting to a text file, then just the words are exported. If exporting to a csv file, then the words and number of occurrences are exported.

Ÿ New feature, numeric comparison between two fields - Users can use the Numeric search dialog to select 2 fields to numeric compare.

Ÿ New feature, edit hypertext links via the context menu - Users can now right click on a highlighted hypertext link and select "Edit Link" from the pop up context menu.

Ÿ New feature, Multiple file searches can now be stored for future reuse - Multiple file searches can now be store in a manner similar to Stored Searches. Multiple file searches are stored in the registry so each user can have their own searches.

Ÿ New feature, Ability to delete multiple bookmarks - Users can now delete multiple bookmarks from the Set Bookmark dialog box.

Ÿ Hypertexting to another askSam file would not save a modifed document in the other file - Fixed a bug where if a user modifies a document in one askSam file then switches to another file without saving the document; then hypertexts back to the modified file, the changes would be lost.

Ÿ Filenames with umlats would not import - Any filename with an umlat or any other foreign would give a "Bad path" error message when importing.

Build 5.0.2.605    Released on October 23, 2002

Ÿ Mailboxes with Commas would not get Imported  - Fixed the problem with mailbox names with commas that would not get imported. This affected Microsoft Exchange emails.

Ÿ Email Import Dialog/Profile Wizard - Fixed the problem with mailbox folder not being expanded to show the selected mailbox.

Ÿ Emdash & Endash Characters would be Missing - Fixed the problem with emdash & endash characters that would disappear or not appear after importing. Sometimes the word after the dash would be missing too.

Ÿ Email Document Icon Grayed Out  - Fixed the problem with Email Document toolbar icon being grayed out.

Build 5.0.2.603    Released on September 29, 2002

Ÿ Menu Items Grayed Out  - Fixed the problem with Email Document and Attachments menu items which existed in build 602. Now these are are no longer grayed out.

Ÿ RTF & Hyphens - Only required hyphens were being imported & pasted.  Now all hyphens except optional hyphens are imported & pasted.

Ÿ Tooltips - Restored missing tooltips for Print Remembered, Export Remembered, and Email Document icons.

Build 5.0.2.598    Released on September 18, 2002

Ÿ Optional Hyphen in RTF - The RTF optional hyphen was being treated as a required hyphen when imported.

Ÿ Quotes in RTF - Single and double quotes sometimes would not come in correctly in RTF. They would be replaced by the apostrophe ' or regular quotes ". Now the RTF command imported for \lquote is ‘, \rquote is ’, \ldblquote is “, and \rdblquote is ”.

Build 5.0.2.597    Released on September 15, 2002

Ÿ Email Merge - Requests with prompts would not output documents for email merge.

Ÿ     Phantom Attachments - If you were at a document that had an attachment then added a new document, the attachment from the previous document appeared.  You could not do anything with the the attachment in the new document (view delete etc.).

Ÿ Proximity & Show Searches - Fixed bug "Cannot have output controls prior to sort" when searching using the show command or a proximity search with "Output hits" selected.

Ÿ Compatibility with SurfSaver - This build of askSam is now compatible with SurfSaver 2.3.

Build 5.0.2.595    Released on August 28, 2002

Ÿ Emdash and Endash - Emdash and endash characters are now imported and exported.

Ÿ Email Merge - Letter can now be sent out in either text or HTML format. Previously message was only sent in HTML format.

Ÿ Attachments - Selecting documents from the search results grid would not display the attachments from the attachments dialog or pop up menu.

Ÿ Outlook Import - askSam would display "Internal Error" message and stop importing when an empty folder was encountered.

Ÿ Outlook Import Status Bar - The status bar was not accurate for Outlook import.

Ÿ File New - When creating a new file, the dialog setting was not being saved.

Ÿ Import Outlook Attachments - Files were being left in the temp directory when importing emails with attachments.

Build 5.0.2.594    Released on August 13, 2002

Ÿ Attachments - Sped up the displaying of attachments in the attachment menu and attachment dialog.

Ÿ Date Search Dialog Displaying 2 Digit Years - The data search dialog would only display a 2 digit year date selection when the date format file setting was set to a 2 digit year date format. This behavior was not desirable because this would not allow you to select years from multiple centuries. The dialog would also add the current century to the date search no matter if the file setting was configured for "19xx" or "20xx".

Ÿ Editor Tab Stops not Working Correctly - When setting tab stops using the Format->Tabs dialog, if the order listed in the tab stop list is incorrect then the tab stops will not function correctly in the askSam editor.

Ÿ Importing Outlook Messages with Multiple Attachments - Outlook messages with multiple attachments would only import the last attachment multiple times.

Ÿ New Messages since last import not working for Outlook - When importing Outlook messages, the "New Messages since last import" option would not work.
