Importing CSV Files into Entry Forms Posted: 30 Sep 2009 02:04 PM |
I am redoing my entry form, and so I exported my file to a .csv file. When I finished tweeking my entry form, I imported one record successfully, then I imported 6 records successfully, but when I tried to import all the 1,500 + records at the same time, none were imported. Is there a limit on the amount of records that can be imported at one time? How big would be the Exel .cvs files have to be to satisfy askSam?
The second problem is that after the experiments with 1 and 6 records, at the bottom of the entry form was all of the File Names, and they are on each one of the new records. Is this normal, or is there a switch in the import dialogue I did not understand?
I am running askSam 6.1 with MS Exel.
Thanks.

I solved my problem - and created another!
I chopped the exel .cvs file into five parts and imported them into my askSam data base with no problem. All the material is intact.
The problem is that at the bottom of the record is the list the field names, one after the other, running downwards. I don;t know what caused this but it is an annoyance and getting rid of it is not easy. Actually, there are two of them, both running downward from the last line of the record.
I used only the standard settings so I am surprised by this. Does anyone have an explanation?

That seems strange, normally CSV import runs quite alright.
Could it be, that you set "Auto Field Recognition" to yes from the import file dialog ?

I agree with Felix - import shouldn't be giving you a problem.
Do make sure you leave Auto Field Recognition set at "No" & that you're importing into your entry form.
