1.Re: Running AskSam in Linux
Posted by mfelix on 11/17/2009 7:09:52 AM
Ralph, did you do a search on the forums ?

I just ask this because the topic has been discussed if I remember correctly and I think the result was yes, it runs.

Regards,

Felix
2.Re: Search Term or Phrase "Hits" Not Highlighted

Sadly so the bug persists in version 7.0.2.143 (tested under XP).
It can be circumvented as described in this thread.

Time to ask again (and again and again): what is going on at askSam ?
3.Re: last days in lifecycle
Posted by mfelix on 10/15/2009 10:06:48 AM
Has anybody been in contact with asksam folks recently ?

I can't find a trace of them within this forum and I'm even under the impression that its quite some time since the last asksam news letter (maybe I'm wrong) came around.

Did you have a look at the member list of the forum ?
My impression is that the names chosen by the latest registrations are rather strange.
So strange in fact that it would be hard for me to reminder such a name at all.
Go back and look at the very first few pages of member registrations and you will see what I mean.

In addition very few of these new "members" do actually post.
Normally it is exactly the other way round: you register ...

Fred, you're absolutely right about the German askSam forum.
I had a direct link to it, but it's not working anymore.

Surely Flo will know more about it !
6.Re: Importing CSV Files into Entry Forms

That seems strange, normally CSV import runs quite alright.

Could it be, that you set "Auto Field Recognition" to yes from the import file dialog ?

Ed, I don't think that this is possible. It would then be an enhancement request for a future version. If any ...

8.Re: So Disappointed in Ask Sam Management
Posted by mfelix on 9/9/2009 7:24:10 AM
Dear Suzzie, it's even worse. As of today there isn't a version 7 of SurfSaver for IE on the horizon that would work in conjunction with askSam v7.

Slowly, slowly, I think time is running out for that product.

Sadly so,

9.Re: askSAM alternative??. Last peson please turn out the lights.

For me version 6.1 is absolutely stable. Version 7 does not have features that force me to use it. So I can afford to sit an wait...
10.Re: Is surfsaver 7 on the horizon?

Just wanted to chime in: surfSaver7 takes too long ...

Please give us an update on the situation.

The Surf Report Newsletter comes regularly, so probably you should sbscribe again.

Surfsaver7: I've asked this question already in another thread. Apparently it will come along some time later. In my opinions this takes too long already.

Not even version 7 can be downloaded currently. Somethings broken on the website it looks like.

Bonne journée quand même ....

12.Re: Omitting Information When Printing
Posted by mfelix on 7/16/2009 8:08:02 AM
Amy, from what I know this is not possible with askSam.

You would have to use a workaround, e.g. exporting the documents to be printed to an RTF file (set page break as delimiter) and open it in Microsoft Word.

By automatically replacing all text within brackets (you would have to use a regluar expression like \<*'\>) you would then have a printable version.

Probably someone else has a better idea, if not let me know if you need some ...

Menu "Tools", "Options". set "Unit of Measure" to "Metric", that should help !

14.Re: What about a portable version of AskSam ?
Posted by mfelix on 6/30/2009 2:47:02 AM
Ohhh yesss, what a treat !!!
In the year 2525, if askam is still alive ???

Joking, but I would really like to see that as well !
15.Re: Build 143: how to update?
Posted by mfelix on 6/24/2009 6:26:58 AM
I tried to download the full version just yesterday (just clicking submit as Greg wrote).
On the download page there's no sign of version 7, it is still version 6.

Can anyone confirm this ?

gee, what a state of mind you must have been in on that last day of April: joining the asksam forum for asking a game question.

Sorry, but I couldn't help.....
17.Re: Current status of AskSam7
Posted by mfelix on 5/6/2009 10:59:58 AM
Well, If you're on a budget, then I would stick with version 6.
Albeit there is a feature on the feature list that you need urgently. If not v6 will do all you need and is stable (at least for me).
18.Re: Saving web pages once more
Posted by mfelix on 4/16/2009 6:24:53 AM
Sorry, but it gets more and more annoying: the problem dealt with cannot be solved by askSam users. Someone from the technical staff has to come forward and give us an update on the situation.

Is anyone still around ???
19.Re: Saving web pages once more
Posted by mfelix on 11/6/2008 8:27:51 AM
Paul,

I can confirm Absalom's findings. Unfortunately I cannot add or edit Trusted Sites on my office PC, but there is a pre-defined list and with these sites I can save web pages to askSam v6.1 on Windows Vista. SurfSaver is not yet installed, i.e. it is a stand-alone version of askSam v6.1. On any other site not included on this list I cannot select the cabinet to save to.

Paul,

time is running out for this year and although thinking about decorating the christmas tree is more on my mind than asksam, every now and then I would like to save some web pages with ideas for doing exactly this ;-)

Any update on the issue available ?

Dear Paul,

a lot of time has passed without any news on this subject.
Could you please give us an update on the situation ?
22.Re: Saving web pages once more
Posted by mfelix on 3/25/2009 7:21:52 AM
I'm a confused now, but I thought this thread was dealing with the inability of askSam7 to save web pages out of security reasons. As far as I know, there ist not surfSaver7 version yet. Or did I miss something ?

Probably Paul could help us with this matter an conirm whether or not this bug is supposed to be fixed or not.

I would like to add that I'm disappointed as well regarding the time it takes to fix this issue (and others). So far I've not started working ...
23.Re: Formats for Surfsaver 6.1 and AskSam 7 problems
Posted by mfelix on 4/14/2009 9:42:53 AM
In the past this problem could only be solved by upgrading surfSaver to the same version as askSam.

surfSaver would usually be available a short time after the release of a new askSam release. With version 7 we've had no news so far as to when surfsaver 7 will become available. I'm wondering why it took such a long time before anyone complained.
askSam can save web pages on its own, but with version 7 this function does not work reliantly anymore (see the forums for ...
24.Re: Field suggestion
Posted by mfelix on 4/6/2009 10:38:01 AM
To my knowledge this is not possible today and I think it won't be possible in the near future, because askSam does not have anythink similar to that. It would be something completely new.

Some ideas:

Could you use an excel sheet for that and later on import it into askSam ?

If you just add a few documents now and then manually entering the field value should be acceptable (though not much fun, I agree)

Could you use a macro ...

There is, but you have to create a custom dictionary. Please have a look into the documentation.
