1.Page setup - Letter vs. A4
Posted by anant on 1/8/2004 2:06:18 PM
Marc:
Do you have an English version of askSam or German?

Also Page Setup settings are document specific. So if you set up one document to A4 size, it would change page setup size for that document only and not others.

It may be likely that you may have tried look at the settings for documents which were not changed to A4. Just a guess.

Hope this helps.

2.Page setup - Letter vs. A4

Marc,

You may want to do the following.

1. Click on File > Print > Properties
2. Click on on Advanced.
3. Select A4 size where it says Paper Size.

This should correct the problem.

4.Not saving PDF
Posted by anant on 1/8/2004 2:06:36 PM
No. At the moment, SurfSaver does save PDF files. I've added it to the list of items for future.

You may want to bring your mouse in the content frame and right click on it. You will see an option SurfSaver save. This will make sure that the content/frame you're interested is saved.'

6.Re: askSam 6.1 beta - missing bug fixes
Posted by anant on 5/30/2006 2:34:43 PM
Hi Michael,

The last bug related to <CTRL+ENTER> isn't fixed because of the way floating search results window is implemented in askSam 6.1. However, it will be fixed in version 7 where we're using new toolkit that gives us a better control on the user interface.

Hope this helps.

9.Re: Need to remove "Search" link from search results table
Posted by anant on 3/3/2006 5:18:41 PM
For this, you'll need to customize the Search Results section of the Web Publisher. You'll need to add HTML code for your table in the text boxes described below. At the moment, there is no easy way than this.

Start of Results

Enter the HTML code to start your Search Results. This HTML code will be inserted after the BODY tag and any header HTML. You could start a <TABLE> here and stop it in the End of Results edit box.

No. Duplicate data entring cannot be prevented. However, you can write some JavaScript code to validate data before it is being submitted to the database. There are a number of website that offer freebie JavaScript code.

Posted by anant on 10/5/2005 9:52:25 AM
I think, your third solution would work best for this scenario where you want to make these searches work independent of each other.

The first solution (AND connector) would work too, depending on how the DB is setup. You could put the default value as "*" in all three search boxes. The user decides what he wants to search for, chooses the appropriate box and searches. However, this assumes that he does not delete * from the other two boxes he is not searching in. ...

17.editing the viewer
Posted by anant on 1/8/2004 2:06:40 PM
Mary,

There is really no way to edit the toolbar in the viewer. There is one thing you can do. askSam supports Hypertext Links. You can use the text - First Previous Next Last in the askSam document and link them using Document > Set Hypertext Links. Choose to link Menu Commands. Once this is done, you can copy the links and paste them in each documents. You can control font faces and sizes. If you need additional help, please post.
18.sharing saved articles not .ask folders
Posted by anant on 1/8/2004 2:06:39 PM
Thanks for your post. SurfSaver saves webpages in .ask format (askSam format). These folders can be opened using our database program called askSam.

There are a couple of ways you can share your saved work.

1. Share them in askSam format - You will copy these .ask folders to your computer. Open these folder using askSam. Delete the documents you don't need. Send this newly saved .ask file to your friend through email. Your friend can open this folder using ...

Scotsman, Cyberdiva and J. Reb,

Thank you for your feedback about SurfSaver. I liked the suggestion of being able to email SurfSaver file to users. I've added it to the wishlist for future.

On the other note by J. Reb, SurfSaver uses askSam's searching technology (askSam Engine). askSam Engine searches through askSam files (.ask). We store these web pages in .ask files. This makes them searchable. With plain HTML or Web Pages, they are not searchable.

We've fixed this problem in the most recent build of askSam 6. It now uses the default setting from your printer driver and prints accordingly.

Shegai,

This may or may not help. But you may want to try it anyway. Below is the URL to a post about the update patch.

You may want install the update patch. It does not require you un-install askSam. Follow the steps written on the page.

I am curious to know how it goes.

Joannis and Philip,

Thank you both for sending me your files.

I tested those files with both askSam 5 and 6. But I still could not reproduce the problem. It works as intended.

Joannis and Philip,

I wasn't able to reproduce the problem.

Did you define the settings in Entry Form Properties? Based on your email, it looks like you did. But just wanted to double check. To do this, go to the Entry Form > Properties > Settings.

Also, if you would like, I would love to see your askSam file. It does need to contain any data. We just want to look at the entry form and see if we can see the behavior here.
