My "personal and favorite solution" so far is simply closing and restarting asksam. Just today it happened twice and in both cases restarting AS made hit colors reappear.
May be this will also work for you ...

No, only once per file, although I remember that in one occasion I even had to restart my pc in order to see the colors again.

Indeed, very annoying ...
but I'm sure it's only a bug since the "document folder" window behaves the way it should.
Meanwhile you could use the following workaround:
Change the window option to "dockable" and resize it to, say, 1-2 mm. This way you can move it to the right edge of the screen where it remains almost invisible.
But - of course - it's not a very elegant solution. This bug should be removed as soon as possible.

I'm losing my confidence in my former favorite tool:
How can it be that I'm getting x times a day the message that the file should be recovered EVEN when I have created 3 NEW versions from scratch without importing any old doc or template or stored search from the old database? Before doing this I exported the whole file to both rtf and txt in order to reimport it into the new file (as I said, created from scratch and from different default templates in order to avoid problems ... |

You said the date sorting bug had been fixed in build 140. Well, since I can only do the test with the latest 141, should I suppose that the bug has found its way back?

Sorry, I forgot to mention the following workaround (at least for me):
I will change the denomination of my date fields renaming them "random digits" and everything will be fine again. ;-)

Just a last word in order to put my posting into perspective:
Sorting does NOT work properly as long as I do NOT use a "field" search like this:
february in Date[
or
Date[*
but what I use(d) to do was simply entering a search term into the command line without any restriction like this:
2009
or
feb
I can't understand why this happens, but at least it's a valuable workaround.

Sorry if "Sorting by date" has already been discussed elsewhere (at least I couldn't find it):
Since date sorting has never worked with "my" AS-Versions, I gave up using this option. But today I needed it really bad in order to get the last docs I had been working on this week. So I had AS sort my docs by date and realized that obviousely nothing had been done in order to fix this.
Regardless of the field type I put (date or numeric), AS does NOT ... |

Well, after inserting the two field names in the (default) template it did indeed work fine.
Your advice was important: I had to set them to "numeric" rather than to "date"
(although it seems pretty illogical to me).
Then I tried it with my real database and again, it did NOT work. Then I discovered that "sort by relevance" had automatically been activated, so I changed this and could see for the first time at all that there was a ... |

Had I known that I seem to be the only survivor who uses (almost) exclusively the search line (since I started working with askSam 4 for DOS in 1990), I would have mentioned it from the beginning.

Not a big problem, but a bit annoying:
Even when Data Entry Mode is turned OFF in the settings, when editing an entry form you will always be asked: "Do you wish to turn on Data Entry mode for this file?"
No way to get rid of it.

since there is an explicit option where you can choose between "use file settings - On - Off".
So when I explicitly turn it "OFF" why bother me with that cuestion any and every time I save the template being edited?

Hello,
when adding a new word/phrase to the pick list (in: Display text): In order to really save the term(s) added, you need to add another (dummy) term because otherwise "save" and "close" does NOT save the terms being added. It simply gets lost.

asksam crashes every time I try to pack an important file of about 50 000 docs (only short notes, no images, no attachments). When it gets to about 75% - I get always the same result: It crashes and Windows (Vista) confirms this by showing the respective error message ...

The Start Page seems to be real trouble maker:
AS seems to update all recent files even BEFORE loading them!!
I just got confused (which file to open) when I tried to determine the newest of two copies in order to delete the older one but Total Commander/Explorer showed both files with the same date (of today!).
When I launched AS, it presented me the start window. That was the only operation so far. In other words: I did definitely not open any of the files ... |

No, once within the entry form editor, I use to jump to the next via Alt-PgDn.
In other words, closing it first before changing to the next would avoid this behaviour? Ok, I'll give it a try. Nevertheless, since in previous releases this problem was absent, it should be fixed.

When editing an existing Entry form, the editor forgets the (user defined) shortcuts.
Suppose you assigned shortcut Alt-2 to Entry Form "B" and Alt-3 to Entry Form "C" ...
NOW:
When you open Entry Form B, you can see this shortcut (Alt-2) in the properties window. OK
BUT: when you then go to entry form "C", you can see that the shortcut remains the same, in this case Alt-2. In other words: Saving now Entry Form "C", will ... |

since on my installation (Vista, don't know if this is really matters) AS has always been working this way - so I stopped making use of the history function.
By the way: (it should go to "suggestions"):
When fixing this bug, may be you (I mean the guys at Perry) should consider changing the behaviour of the History in a way that it does NOT reopen a recently closed file when a document within the history chain belongs to that closed file. Or at ... |

even in release 138 AS crashes when trying to add a new item to the pick list via Ctrl-F11 -> Alt-a (for Add Item).
This only occurs when using the keyboard.
